8. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

8.1
Admission in MS/MPhil programs shall be announced /advertised by the Registrar, University of Balochistan as per policy.
8.2

Applications on prescribed forms must be submitted by the candidate in Departments/Centers/Institutes for admission offering MS/MPhil.

8.3
Candidates having minimum sixteen years of education or four years education after F.A. /F.Sc. (with minimum 120 credit hours) in the respective subject from HEC recognized institutions are eligible for admission in MS/MPhil.
8.4
Candidates with a foreign degree equivalent to BS/BE/MA/M.Sc. /MCS/B.Sc. (Hons.) are also eligible for admission in MS/MPhil subject to provision of Equivalence certificate from HEC.
8.5

Minimum CGPA of 2.50 on a scale of 4.00 in BS/BE/M.Sc./MCS on semester system or 50% marks in M.A. / M.Sc. on Annual System is required for admission to MS/MPhil. If the scholar is being evaluated on scale of 5 or percentage then his CGPA shall be calculated considering HEC formula available on (https://admin.umt.edu.pk/Media/Site/UMT/SubSites/oce/FileManager/HEC/Conversion%20Formula%2030-11-2018.pdf).

8.6

Admission Test:
a) UOB shall Conduct admission test (General OR Subjective) as an eligibility condition for admission to MS/MPhil/Equivalent programs, with a passing score of 50%. Choice for appearance in the entry test (General/Subjective) shall be given to the applicant on admission form.
OR
b) Accept the (GRE/HAT General/Subjective Equivalent) tests conducted by testing bodies accredited by HEC, with a passing score of 50%.

8.7

Intradisciplinary Qualifications: The intradisciplinary admission may only be allowed, if:
a) The applicant has a strong interest in pursuing an MS/MPhil/equivalent degree in a different discipline (refers to sub-disciplines occurring within one of the ten broad disciplines defined by UNESCO's International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED-F-2013).

b) The applicant has passed GRE-Subject/equivalent test with minimum 50% marks in the discipline of admission and has taken 6-9 CH of deficiency courses of level 6.

c) The departmental admission committee is satisfied that the applicant’s knowledge of primary area (level 6) has sufficiently prepared him or her to undertake the course of studies of the MS/MPhil/equivalent program (or, in the opinion of the departmental admission committee, the preparation can be deemed satisfactory by taking a few additional courses after starting the program).

8.8

MS/MPhil degree program will be open for all those who qualify the admission criteria. However, serving candidates will have to submit N.O.C from their respective departments along with the application form. The candidate will be a full-time regular student for two years to complete the course work and research/thesis work.

8.9

All faculty Deans and Departmental Chairmen/Chairpersons/Directors will be     responsible to develop their Entry Test through PhD faculty members in their respective Department/Center/Institute for applicants and shall be conducted through UOBTS where applicable.

8.10

The interviews for admission in MS/MPhil program of studies will be conducted through Departmental Admission Committee (DAC). DAC will examine the applications, verify their documents in order to ensure the suitability of the candidates to pursue higher degree.

8.11

Selection shall be made based on cumulative merit determined from previous academic degree(s)/certificate(s) CGPA/average (semester system/annual system), and marks obtained in the written entry test with following weights.

i. Academic Qualifications: 70%
ii Entry test: 30%

Appearance in the interview shall be mandatory.
